The name of the genus Thelocactus derives from the Greek 'thelè' meaning 'nipple' and 'cactus', because of its tubercles which are generally very pronounced. It is a solitary cactus with a globular green stem. From its tubercles sprout spines: the radial ones are gray, short and arranged as a corolla, while the central ones are longer and reddish. Plant of easy cultivation suitable also for neophytes.
