The variegated shape of this cactaceae presents the shades of yellow in the exact points where there is a lack of chlorophyll; such stains or shades are never the same in plants making each of them unique in its kind and for this reason much appreciated by collectors. In its normal form it is a globose cactus flattened at the apex and covered by a greyish-green down; it has very pronounced tubercles. Its long and straight spines are generally grey-black and paler at the apex. Flowering usually takes place after 5 years of life and the beautiful flowers are pink or white with the darkest central strip.
