Description:

Wonderful cactaceae with an absolutely unusual look: the name of the species literally means "caterpillar", just in relation to the creeping course these exemplars assume. Characterized by stems exceeding even 3 meters of length for a diameter of a few centimeters, these cacti tend to multiply abundantly, giving rise to real crawling carpets that have given it the name, however, of "desert snake" or even "creeping devil". Equipped with not very marked longitudinal ribs, it has several roundish and aligned areoles from which come out multiple thin radial spines and rather short, and a single central plug wide, flat and over 3 cm long. Only in rare cases, due, for example, to heavy rainfall in nature, this specimen will further amaze you with gigantic nocturnal flowers on the notes of white or pink.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light and likes direct sun rays.

It likes hot and dry climates such as the desert ones from which it comes, however it resists well for long periods the temperatures above 8 °C (for short periods it can withstand even lower temperatures). It is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water once or twice a week in hot weather; it is preferable to completely suspend watering during the winter period.

It is better to use a substrate suitable for cacti, which is well draining, in order to prevent rotting of the roots.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
