Description:

The name of this succulent has a double reference: on the one hand it comes from the Greek and means "to tear, to hurt", to indicate its poisonous nature, on the other it refers to Scylla, the mythical monster that lived in the Strait of Messina, to highlight the lands of origin of this plant that grows in coastal areas, sometimes even directly on the sand. From this small bulb bloom, among fleshy green leaves arranged in a rosette, long stems with fresh spike-shaped flowers, typically blue or purple, that will color and brighten your flowerbeds or your interior. S. natalensis can reach 1 m in height and the flowering period is spring-summer.

Plant care:

Likes exposure to full sun.

It likes the Mediterranean climate of the areas where it comes from, therefore it requires mild temperatures and must be sheltered when they drop below 5 °C.

It is advisable to always keep the soil moist enough, never dry, to prevent the bulb from drying out. Beware of stagnant water that could cause rotting.

The best option is a sandy, very draining soil.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
