Description:

It is a wonderful African herbaceous plant, consisting of a woody and roundish-like caudex that usually does not exceed the 15 cm of diameter. It tends at the apex to taper, to give space to the main stem, slender and ramified, from which emerges the foliage: of a nice lively green, the leaves develop in opposite ways regarding the stem. They are covered by delicate and symmetrical veins and their lanceolate shape gives the name to the whole species. The epidermis is pleasantly velvety and contrasts nicely with the delicate 5-pointed flowers that bloom on the notes of a very characteristic bluish-purple!

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as it might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water regularly but moderately during the growing season (when the new leaves are born), always making sure that the soil is always dry between one watering and the next one. During the dormant period (when the leaves begin to turn yellow and fall) suspend watering.

The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% or more of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
