Description:

Its name derives from Latin and literally means "hairy candle", making reference to its two main characteristics: on one hand, it has the typical candlestick shape of the genus Cereus, with a columnar habit, branched with growth, with deep and marked ribs and sturdy spines; on the other hand, it differs strongly from this genus, due to the thick whitish hair, that covers the entire stem and, when mature, forms a graceful cephalium at the apex. From this down, in summer, showy nocturnal flowers bloom, that will decorate even more this imposing typically glaucous cactus, bringing both a touch of solemnity and elegance to your house. Here are some tips for its proper care and cultivation: This plant likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations. It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period. Water regularly on a weekly basis in spring-summer, always making sure that the soil is always dry between one watering and the next one, avoiding stagnation of water. During the winter period, suspend completely watering. A soil suitable for cacti is an optimal solution, even better if further mixed with pumice. They do not need frequent fertilization, so it will be sufficient to dilute a specific cacti fertilizer with watering once a year.
