Description:
It is a very particular succulent, commonly known as the "devil’s backbone" due to the zigzag shape of its slender herbaceous stems. In nature it tends to reach even 2 m of height, developing bright lanceolate leaves which are covered with veins, arranged in opposite ways along the stem. As part of the Euphorbiaceae family, this plant also has an irritating milky sap inside, which, however, when treated correctly, is the raw material for important ointments for skin care. Between late spring and early summer P. tithymaloides will delight you with extravagant scarlet flowers, extremely lively and of an absolutely unique shape, similar to a shoe!

Plant care:
It loves very luminous and well ventilated positions, paying attention however to the direct sun rays that could easily burn the plant.
It prefers mild spring temperatures. In cold periods it is advisable to place the plant sheltered.
In summer it is recommended to water regularly but never with too much abundance, only when the soil is dry. In winter the water supply can be greatly reduced up to about once a month.
It is optimal a strongly draining substratum, characterized by specific soil for cacti which can be added to a good amount of sand.
It does not need frequent fertilizations, it will be sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with the watering water only once a year.
