Pachypodium namaquanum f. variegated

This specimen of fatty plant proudly shows its variegation that, thanks to the lack of chlorophyll in the epidermis, will appear in stains or streaks all different from each other, making each specimen variegated unique. The name of this Pachypodium comes from the ethnic group Namaqua. It is a solitary, slow-growing succulent plant that can branch out at the base with time. It has a cylindrical stem of considerable size: up to 25 cm in diameter and 2.5-3 m high! Like most plants in arid and rocky areas, P. namaquanum is covered with long spines that protect it from animals and intense sun. At the apex of the stem, a rosette of fleshy ovate and wavy leaves of greyish-green color is formed. In the flowering period (August-September) beautiful tubular flowers bloom, red inside and yellow-green outside.
