Ophthalmophyllum pubescens SB.80

The name of the genus comes from the Greek words "ophthalmos" ("eye") and "phyllom" ("leaf"), due to the translucent part, placed at the apex of the leaves, which allows the light to pass through. It is a slow-growing succulent plant, which over time clusters at the base, generating a beautiful carpet. It has fleshy bright green leaves, which are of a cylindrical shape, grouped in two. This succulent plant has a particular growth: the new leaves are formed inside the stem and then come out, when the old leaves begin to dry out. The old leaves protect the body of the plant, during the summer vegetative rest. It blooms with beautiful white-pink flowers, which are similar to the common “dandelion”.
