Description:

Its name comes from the Greek word "nòtos", meaning "southern", referring to the fact, that these cacti come from South America, unlike most cacti, which are often found in the central areas. From its globular stems, that can also be elongated, as the plant grows, its characteristic spines of different colors and disposition emerge, which generally are quite long. These plants are extremely long-lived and rather slow-growing, but, if you wait a little bit, they will give you spectacular and unexpectedly large lively summer blooms, that, untypically for cacti, will continue to brighten and color your surroundings for a whole week!

Plant care:

It likes very bright locations, but it can also stand direct sunlight in the hottest hours of the day.

It prefers rather mild temperatures, however it still survives even at temperatures close to freezing if the soil is dry.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer, and suspend watering completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
