Description:
A cactacea that is easily recognized for its long light and rather flexible radial spines, that wrap up the whole body of the plant, and for the darker central spines at the apex, that are longer and more rigid, all facing upwards. It is a globular cactus, which can become slightly cylindrical with growth, has a greyish-green, dark green or blackish-purple color. Flowering generally occurs in winter or, more rarely, closer to late spring, with the flowers of a splendid intense magenta color.

Plant care:
It likes very bright places, however, avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
It prefers rather mild temperatures, however it still survives even at temperatures close to freezing if the soil is dry.
Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer, and suspend watering completely in winter.
The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.
They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
