Neoporteria echinus var. floccosa

Extremely particular cactus and easily recognizable for the robust dark thorns and for the down that enriches, in a different way from variety to variety, its white oval areoles. It has a spherical shape, slightly depressed at the apex, which may become columnar with the growth up to even 20 cm. Its epidermis assumes dark green hues, shaded at times of violaceous depending on the sun exposure. From the tubercles come out robust blackish thorns, often curved, which, when ripe, tend to increase in number and to assume a pinstriped grey colour. Only when Neoporteria echinus has grown up will it delight you with its large and abundant flowers that fade from pink-reddish to white and contrast nicely with the wild appearance of the cactus!
