Mammillaria vetula ssp. gracilis is also known as "Thimble mammillaria" and "Thimble cactus". It is a small-sized, slow-growing plant. It forms many suckers around the stem, that can reach up to 13 cm in height. You have to be very careful in touching it or transferring it, because it is very delicate, the small suckers can detach from the stem. If this happens you can safely ground them back, because they root easily, forming new seedlings. The thin white spines are curved towards the stem and cover it almost completely. From spring until autumn, it blooms with small cream colored flowers of a light pink shade on the outside-base of the petals.
