Description:
It is a spherical cactus with an intense dark green stem, its name derives from the place where it was found, in Mexico. As other Mammillaria, it has two kind of spines emerging from its round and white areolas: the radial ones which are clear, rather short and straight and the central ones, which are its characteristic spines, that are longer, hooked and black, these last ones tend to thicken at the apex.
Description:
It is a rather light green cactaceae, equipped with numerous conical and protruding tubercles, with a down in the grooves. The plant has small straight golden spines, which tend to elongate at the apex, where also the down is thicker.

Plant care:
It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.
It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.
The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.
They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
