Mammillaria schumannii

Cactaceae with very small stems, which tend to grow in pleasant groups with multiple heads, giving rise to characteristic spiny cushions. Each stem, of a nice greenish-gray color which, in the sun, may get pinkish shades, has rather prominent roundish tubercles, at the apex of which, from large roundish areolas, emerge its peculiar spines. The central ones are well straight and robust, whitish and not very long, arranged radially; it has instead usually a single central plug that from white fades towards black on the tips, for an overall effect definitely great effect! A very appreciated characteristic of M. schumannii is its flowering: usually in summer, this cactus shows already from the first years of life its purple-pink flowers, much bigger and showier than the other species of Mammillaria!
