Description:

The name of Mammillaria saboae honors Kathryn Sabo, who discovered it in the mountains of Mexico in 1965. In nature it grows among volcanic rocks at an altitude between 1,500 and 2,000 m. above sea level; during drought periods, it retreats almost underground. It is a small cactus with a very slow growth, that tends to cluster and reaches a height of 4 cm. The areoles are large, with the spines, arranged in a corolla, that resemble a millipede. In May you can admire its beautiful large flowers, which exceed the size of the plant, are of an intense magenta color.

Plant care:

It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well-draining one, even better if further enriched with inert materials such as pumice, sand or lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
