This cactaceae has a globose stem, slightly depressed at the apex, which while growing can become columnar up to a maximum of about 15 cm of height. It is equipped with strongly protruding conical tubercles, among which comes out a soft white down that stands out conspicuously among the roundish areoles and especially among the many thorns. The central ones are very thin, cream-coloured, not very long and arranged in radial; the central spines are, on the contrary, longer, of an intense yellow tending to orange or at times brownish, often hooked downwards. The wild appearance of the cactus is "softened" when, in spring, between the long thorns blossom pleasant pink-fuchsia flowers, with petals of a silky luster that certainly will not go unnoticed!
