The name of the species comes from the Greek and literally means "multiple tubercles", in reference to the numerous protrusions from which this cactacea is formed. Of a nice bright light green, M. polythele develops a cylindrical shape that reaches even 40 cm in height, maintaining a diameter of a few centimeters. At the base of the great conical tubercles grows a candid down, as well as in the areolas at the apex of the protrusion, which in spring pleasantly contrasts with the small and delicate pink-pink flowers blooming as a corolla around the apex.
