In nature it grows in San Pedro Nolasco - an island in Baja California in Mexico. It is a solitary cactus, that clusters from the base. The light green stem is covered with tubercles, between which a kind of white hairs, similar to wool, can be seen. The radial spines are white and are, arranged in a corolla, while the central ones are much longer and are of a brown color. The flowers are of a very delicate cream color with a bright yellow pistil in the center.
