Mammillaria hermosana

M. hermosana is a rare cactus exemplar and for this reason very sought after by collectors. Its name 'hermosana' comes from the village where this species grows, View Hermosa in Mexico and also from the word itself in Spanish 'hermosa' which means 'pretty'. It has a small green globose stem which is entirely covered by thorns. The tubercles are cylindrical and marked; at the apex of which we find the fluffy areolas where the numerous thorns come out. The latter protect the plant from the excessive summer heat and the cold of winter, covering the epidermis and creating a layer of air between them and the stem. The central spines are almost always absent while the radials are white, thin and flattened, very intertwined. During the flowering period, this magnificent cactus will give us beautiful cream or pale pink daisies, with a vertical median line of pink or fuchsia.
