Mammillaria halbingeri

The name of the species was chosen in honor of Christian Halbinger, a renowned German botanist. It is a small strongly thorny cactus, which does not exceed the 10 cm of height developing with a slightly cylindrical shape. Of a pleasing pale green color, its stem is surmounted by little accentuated small tubercles, among which protrudes an evident whitish down. The apparently soft look of M. halbingeri is consolidated by thick thin radial spines and arranged to wrap the stem of a very delicate vitreous white, which contrasts with the two central spines facing outwards, much longer and robust. The yellow-brownish notes of the latter tend to stand out strongly among the overall candid appearance, giving the cactus an extreme wild charm. In spring this Mammillaria produces small and pretty cream yellow flowers, which crown the top of the plant with their delicate notes.
