It is a globose or slightly cylindrical cactus, depressed at the apex, which with growth can branch into a dichotomous form. It has an intense green stem with well pronounced tubercles, on which brownish or reddish areoles are formed. From these areoles 20-30 radial spines come out, that are very thin, up to 2 mm long, of a glassy white color, while the central spines are rigid, up to 2 mm long as well, yellowish with a brownish tip. In late winter / early spring, it blooms with funnel-shaped fuchsia flowers.
