Globose cactus, slightly depressed at the top, with a beautiful bright green and rather glossy body, made up of slightly marked and not exactly symmetrical longitudinal ribs, at the top of which there are round areoles. This plant has strong and pale radial thorns, sometimes tinged towards bronze at the tip, which are arranged like the legs of a spider, wrapping the body of the cactus; the central spines are instead one or two, much longer and more robust, slightly curved and facing outwards or upwards. When the plant reaches maturity the thorns take on their typical gray color. In spring the charm of Lobivia backebergii is amplified by large funnel-shaped flowers, fuchsia and purple in color, very bright and showy.
