The crested shape of L. arachnacantha has a very particular fan-shaped crest that is never identical in two different plants, making each one unique and refined. In its normal form it is a cactus with a slightly flattened spherical stem, which curls and forms large tufts with time. It has ribs with a roundish shape, little defined, on which grow groups of spines resembling small spiders. It blooms from spring to summer, generating very showy funnel-shaped flowers of considerable size, often larger than the plant itself. The flowers vary in color from golden yellow to purple-red or even white.
