This beautiful and very rare "living stone" is highly appreciated and sought after by green collectors all over the world. It was found by Friedrich Eberlanz in 1923. Its name derives from Latin, where "optica" means "eye" and "rubra" means "red". One of the most particular Lithops, due to its slow growth and the particular purple color, that fades towards magenta. Unlike other Lithops, L. optica var. rubra is a species, that grows and blooms in winter and goes dormant in summer. In January from its body with oblong and conical leaves, a beautiful white flower of pink shades blooms.
