Lithops olivacea

This living stone (named for its shape and pebble-like colour) takes its name from the Latin and literally means "olive-like", probably referring to the particular colour of the epidermis. It has, like all the species belonging to the genus Lithops, its stem formed by two big and fleshy leaves, with flat apex, which do not exceed a few centimetres of height but tend rather to develop horizontally in tufts similar to a heap of stones. The epidermis, the real strong and distinctive point of this succulent, assumes wonderful grey-bluish hues with pale olive green apex, well detached from the rest of the colouration by a sort of wavy margin. The delicacy of this plant is strongly enlivened when they bloom, from the fissure in the middle between the two leaves, big bright yellow flowers.
