The name of this species was chosen in honor of the famous German botanist Adolar Herre. It is a beautiful exemplar of "living stone", commonly called so for the shape and arrangement of its leaves, as well as for the typically greyish color that is perfectly camouflaged with the pebbles present in nature and allows the plant to hide and thus defend itself from possible attacks by predators. Each body consists of only two extremely fleshy leaves, separated by a central fissure and arranged like a sort of inverted cone, with a pleasantly mottled flat apex of lighter speckles, sometimes yellowish and sometimes almost transparent. Perhaps not many know that the translucent dots of Lithops allow it to penetrate the sunlight inside the plant and thus carry out photosynthesis even remaining partially underground! In the middle of autumn L. herrei will give you a breath of life when, from the central fissure, large daisies blossom on the notes of an intense dark yellow.
