Dwarf succulent characterized by a single couple of leaves disposed as an inverted cone, extremely fleshy and fused at the base, to be then separated by a wide central slit. The foliar epidermis is tinted in a tenuous and opaque light green, but the real strong point of it is the upper surface: adorned in almost yellow margins, the whole superficial portion of L. helmutii, large and flattened, results completely mottled of lighter areas and darker and translucent zones. The darker parts act like an actual window, with their transparency they allow sunlight to penetrate in the whole succulent, helping it with chlorophyll photosynthesis: a fundamental ploy for the health of the plant and its ornamental potential at the same time.
