Description:

Commonly known as "Buddha's belly". The characteristic, that distinguishes this plant, is the particular shape of its caudex, with the appearance of a swollen grayish-white body, from which the stem grows, more similar to a not very tall shrub. At the apex, from succulent branches a few bright green leaves emerge, which are slightly darker on the underside, consisting of three or five lobes. It has female flowers, all surrounded by small and typically red-orange male flowers, which are born in different periods. Usually this plant blooms throughout the year, if the climatic conditions allow it.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sun rays, especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as they might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water regularly but moderately during the growing season (when the new leaves are born), always making sure that the soil is always dry between one watering and the next one. During the dormant period (when the leaves begin to turn yellow and fall) suspend watering.

The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% or more of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
