Description:

It is a shrub with a succulent stem, that does not exceed two meters in height. There is a pleasant contrast between the strong purple color of the young leaves and the bright green one of the more mature leaves, covered on the edges with brown hairs. Leaves have the shape typical for the genus Jatropha, consisting of three to five lanceolate lobes, serrated, hairless on the surface and hairy on the edges. It has female flowers, all surrounded by small and yellowish male flowers, which bloom in different periods. Usually this plant blooms throughout the year, if the climatic conditions allow it.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sun rays, especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as they might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water regularly but moderately during the growing season (when the new leaves are born), always making sure that the soil is always dry between one watering and the next one. During the dormant period (when the leaves begin to turn yellow and fall) suspend watering.

The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% or more of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
