Jatropha berlandieri

It is particularly appreciated for its globose caudex. It is a highly sought after plant, because it combines a refined shape with adaptability to the surrounding environment. It consists of a whitish spherical caudex, wrinkled and with a rough texture, from which, in the vegetative periods, not very long branches with dark green palmate leaves emerge, which are lobed 5 to 7 times. In summer, the green of the branches contrasts with the bright red or pink color of the small cluster of flowers. In winter the plant loses its branches and remains "dormant" with only the spherical tuber exposed. This succulent is also very resistant to drought, thanks to its imposing caudex, which acts as a water reserve and allows it to remain without water for months.
