Gymnocalycium tillianum

Pleasant cactus characterized by globose stem, slightly depressed at the apex, tending to reach a maximum diameter of about 15 cm. The body, of an intense emerald green, is equipped with longitudinal ribs little marked but deeply tuberculated, sometimes with well protruding edges. From candid areolas come out sparse spines and of variable length, rather robust and slightly curved, which take on pleasant reddish-brown notes at a young age, and then fade towards a whitish-gray when the plant is ripe. One of the strengths of G. tillianum is undoubtedly the inflorescence: in spring at the apex of the plant bloom large funnel-shaped flowers, whose pinkish or reddish tones create a wonderful chromatic contrast with the stem!
