Gymnocalycium nigriareolatum f. variegata

G. nigriareolatum is a magnificent exemplar of cactus with a globose shape and slightly flattened at the apex. Its stem has colors that can vary from glaucous green to dark green and with prolonged exposure to the sun tends to take purple shades. The stem is equipped with well marked ribs and rounded tubercles. On the latter we find the brownish fluffy areolas. Its spines come out from the areoles and are radial and central: the radials are numerous, long curved towards the stem ; greyish white with brown tips. The central plug is almost always absent, if present, is similar to the radials but longer , with a darker tip and curved upwards. Its flowers are large and bloom at the apex of the plant sporting colors such as light pink or white.
