Gymnocalycium curvispinum

A cactacea plant with a solitary habit, which may cluster over time. Its stem has well-defined ribs, with small protuberances and white downy areoles. Its long grayish-white spines are very stiff with a sharp curvature, hence the name 'curvispinum'. It can take on a bronzed-purplish color, when exposed to intense light or stay in dry cold conditions, which encourages flowering. In summer it blooms with numerous ivory-white tubular flowers of a pinkish color.
