The crested shape of this plant is quite rare, characterized by a fan arrangement, different from the other genera, as it is more compact, but equally fascinating and particular. In its normal form it is a spherical cactacea, depressed at the apex, of a very variable color and shape. Its stem has multiple protuberances, well outlined by the chromatic contrast that is created. In the upper part it has a greenish pigmentation, while in the lower part it has purplish shades. The spines are short and straight, of a brownish-yellow color. Its funnel-shaped inflorescences are of a faded color that vary from white to pink.
