This gorgeous succulent is not present in nature, it was conceived in the nursery by Bob Grim by crossing a specimen of Graptopetalum paraguayense with one of Sedum adolphi, in order to obtain a plant that combines characteristics of both giving birth to a unique, gracefully ornamental specimen. It has slender and elongated stems that tend to prostrate to the ground or fall in beautiful cascades if placed in hanging pots. At the apex of those compact rosettes develop, formed of rigid, oval shaped, fleshy leaves that end in a bursting tip. The shape of the leaves resembles the Graptopetalum, while epidermis’ color, which fades from muted green to intense pinkish-orange tones, is a typical Sedum characteristic, so charming to give this plant a name that would express its resemblance with a majestic californian sunset. During spring times, Graptosedum ‘California sunset’ gains a renovated charm thanks to small, gracious, star shaped flowers.
