Description:

G. rusbyi is a nice exemplar of succulent with small size; slow growing that tends to tuft and create numerous suckers. Its name comes from the Greek and literally means "inscribed petal", in reference to the characteristic petals with small reddish signs, which form very thick and robust flowers (reason that has given it the common name of "leather petals"). The leaves of G. rusbyi are fleshy and lanceolate; with light green-bluish shades at the base and fade towards the purple and pale pink towards the tips. They are covered by a whitish plum that protects them from the elements giving the succulent a very particular appearance. It is very appreciated for its inflorescences; in spring, beautiful flowers bloom arranged in clusters, from the shape of a star with intense red shades to the tips and white at the base. Thanks to its attractive appearance it is a very refined plant and suitable for decorating any type of environment.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sun rays, especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as they might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 8 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in winter.

The best soil is a well draining one, so to avoid rotting, for example a mixture of peat and pumice so that the water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
