Description:

It is a highly sought after dwarf cactus, which is truly unique, due to its extremely particular characteristics. It has a globular or slightly elongated stem that widens at the apex, equipped with long and dark areoles, from which very short combed glassy white spines protrude, that flatten on both sides of each areole along the stem. At the apex it has a thick down, in the middle of which large sulfur-colored flowers blossom; they are very showy and ornamental. The large tuberous root allows the plant to survive even during drought, but at the same time, this small cactus is able to "deflate" until it hides almost completely under the ground, in order to protect itself from bad weather!

Plant care:

It requires an exposure to full sun. However, it can be placed in a partially shaded area only if it still receives a lot of light throughout the year.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 8 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

A well draining soil is an optimal solution, to avoid rotting, for example formed by a mixture of peat and pumice so that the water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
