Cactacea solitaria, formed by globose stem which is depressed at the apex and does not exceed a diameter of about 6 cm. Of an intense emerald green, it is equipped with little pronounced tubercles and roundish yellowish areoles, from which emerge slender thorns bristly and turned in various directions, whose beautiful golden color gives the whole plant an unmistakable golden charm (hence the name of the species that comes from the Greek and literally means "similar to the sun"). Perhaps not many know that Frailea bears very well drought, tending to dry up and hide under the ground to protect itself, and then swell as soon as it will have sufficient water supply!
