Description:

Peculiar cactacea with a globular shape, slightly depressed at the apex, equipped with narrow longitudinal ribs and strongly tuberculated in an asymmetrical way. Of a beautiful bright emerald green, the body contrasts nicely with the large whitish rounded areoles, from which numerous spines protrude: the radial spines, shorter and straight, are cream-colored and are arranged in a radial pattern around the areola; the central spines are instead much longer, reddish and sometimes slightly hooked, similar to bristles as evidenced by the name of the species. Overall, the appearance of F. setispinus is strongly wild, made even more intriguing by the large yellow flowers with a burgundy throat, which bloom in abundance at the apex of the plant in late summer and make it a perfect mix of ferocity and liveliness!

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sun rays, especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as they might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 6 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best one is a very well-draining soil specific for cacti.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
