It is a globular, dark green cactus, generally solitary, which over time can assume a columnar shape. The body has multiple well-furrowed ribs with large round white areoles.Its strong reddish spines are flattened, slightly curved downwards, tending to enclose the body. During summer, a crown of fantastic funnel-shaped flowers blooms on the apical part of the plant; flowers are of a whitish color, tinged with pink.
