The monstrous shape of this cactus presents anomalies or lack of thorns that make it unique in its kind; moreover, thanks to its variegated shape, it shows yellowish spots or streaks in places where there is a lack of chlorophyll, spots that will never be identical in different plants. These two characteristics make this specimen of F. latispinus very sought after by collectors around the world. It is a generally solitary globe cactus also known as the "devil’s tongue cactus". Its green-bluish stem has well defined ribs on which large white fluffy areolas sprout. Its radial spines are robust and needle-like, translucent whitish, while the central spines are of a bright red, where centrally emerges a long flat and hooked spine, similar to a tongue, from which it takes its nickname. Its multi-layered bell-shaped flowers, are serrated at the margins, of intense pink-magenta color, bloom on the apical part of the plant.
