Description:

Beautiful exemplar of cactaceae with a solitary and globose shape that with the growth can become cylindrical. Its dark green stem has many ribs well marked with wavy margins, above which are the white and wooly areolas. From the latter come out the radial and central spines; they are very similar to each other and initially are golden yellow, with growth of the plant they become brownish. It is very appreciated and sought after by collectors for its particular variegated form with yellow shades. The spines completely cover the globose stem of F. johnstonianus f. variegata and are intertwined with each other. Its beautiful flowers grow at the apex of the plant, have a shape similar to that of daisies, of colors that vary from yellow to red with slightly serrated margins.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sun rays, especially during the hottest hours of the day, as long as they might burn the leaves.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 6 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce watering to once every two months in autumn, and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best one is a very well-draining soil specific for cacti.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
