Beautiful exemplar of cactaceae with a solitary and globose shape that with the growth can become cylindrical. Its dark green stem has many ribs well marked with wavy margins, above which are the white and wooly areolas. From the latter come out the radial and central spines; they are very similar to each other and initially are golden yellow, with growth of the plant they become brownish. The spines completely cover the globose stem of F. johnstonianus and are intertwined with each other. Its beautiful flowers grow at the apex of the plant, have a shape similar to that of daisies, of colors that vary from yellow to red with slightly serrated margins.
