Ferocactus echidne

It is a medium-sized cactus plant with a solitary habit. Initially it has a globular stem that becomes columnar over time. It has deep and well marked ribs, on which, from downy and sparse areoles spines emerge: amber, long and thin radial spines, and white/reddish-yellow central ones.  In late spring it blooms with beautiful funnel-shaped flowers of a bright yellow color, that form some sort of a ring at the apex of the plant.
