Ferocactus californicus

Original cactus coming from California (hence the name of the species) but probably obtained from the spontaneous crossing, happened in the wild, between Ferocactus peninsulae and Ferocactus rectispinus. It is formed by a globose stem, slightly depressed at the woolly and yellowish apex, which with the growth tends to become columnar reaching remarkable heights. Equipped with longitudinal ribs deeply furrowed along which large ovoid and clear areoles are shown, it has yellowish, needle-like and robust radial spines, which are disposed like the legs of a spider. The central spines are instead of an intense reddish-orange that contrasts pleasantly with the emerald green of the stem, much longer and sometimes slightly curved at the apex. In the middle of summer this cactus will fill your spaces with its showy yellow-orange apical flowers, characterized by a darker midline along the petals. The charm of this plant, consisting of the fantastic combination of its extreme ferocity and great elegance, is truly unparalleled!
