A very rare cactacea, as its name suggests: in nature it is found only in the northern Cape areas of South Africa. It has strong and spiny stems of a bright green color, up to 16 cm in height, which branch off easily; each stem has four ribs. Two pairs of spines can be seen on each node: two spines up to 1 cm long, other two are shorter, all ranging in color from yellowish to dark brown.
