The crested shape of this plant is quite rare, characterized by a fan arrangement, different from the other genera, more compact and with fewer protuberances, but equally fascinating and particular. The normal form of Euphorbia obesa, commonly known as a "baseball plant", is a succulent, made up of globose stems, which take on a columnar shape, when growing. It has a stem, that can vary in color from dark green to green-gray, often with lighter streaks and typically slightly protruding ribs without spines.
