This exemplar grows in the rocky and calcareous areas of southwestern Madagascar. Its name comes from the Greek 'brachyphylla' and means short leaf ( 'brachys' means short, small and 'phyllon' which means leaf). It has a shrubby and lignified stem equipped with robust spines flattened at the base of whitish color that over time tend to darken. Its leaves are dark green, elongated and have a smooth surface. During the flowering period this plant gives small flowers of colors ranging from yellowish-green to salmon pink.
