Eriosyce sandillon

This globe-shaped cactus tends to become cylindrical over 1 m tall. It has numerous tuberculate ribs above which are positioned the fluffy areolas. E. sandillon’s spines are central and radial: the first ones are 1-2 in number, robust and long while the radials are more numerous and radiated. Both are curved towards the stem and have colors ranging from amber yellow, dark red and black. With growth the number of spines per areola increases up to 20. Its beautiful flowers bloom at the apex of the stems, have a bell-shaped shape and are red in color. We can find up to 50 flowers on an adult specimen.
